description

The Long-Range Advanced Scout Surveillance System (LRAS3) and Fire Support Sensor System (FS3) were developed over two decades ago to equip armored and infantry scouts with long-range Reconnaissance, Surveillance, and Target Acquisition (RSTA) capabilities, enabling 24/7 operations in all weather conditions while remaining outside enemy detection ranges. However, advancements in technology and evolving battlefield requirements necessitate a modernized replacement.

To address this need, the prototype solution, FALCONS, will serve as the next-generation replacement for LRAS3 and FS3. This effort will incorporate Digital Engineering (DE), a collaborative digital environment that enhances design, development, and evaluation processes. DE allows both the Contractor and the Government to analyze subsystem interdependencies, identify cost drivers, assess technical and performance risks, and evaluate the impact of design changes in real time. At the conclusion of the prototyping effort, each vendor is expected to deliver seven (7) prototype units to evaluate the technical feasibility and operational effectiveness of the FALCONS system.
