Bi-Directional DC to DC Converter (BiDi) Line Replaceable Unit (LRU)
April 30, 2025
description
The Bi-Directional DC to DC Converter (BiDi) was developed over 15 years ago and incorporated into the development of the M109A7 Paladin and M992A3 Carrier Ammunition Tracked (CAT). The BiDi converts 610 VDC power from the generator, into 28VDC that the majority of components on the vehicle use to operate. Many of the current components within the BiDi are expected to become obsolete within the next 6 years, therefore a replacement is needed in order to avoid a break in production and to update the LRU with current technology.
The Government requires the development of a new subsystem incorporating current electrical technology to improve the producibility and maintainability of the LRU. The Government Performance Specification requires the development of a new field reprogramming capability and enhanced diagnostics capabilities, which is missing today.
