C5ISR / EW Modular Open Suite of Standards (CMOSS) Mounted Form Factor (CMFF) Mounted Common Infrastructure (MCI)
April 30, 2025
description
Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance/Electronic Warfare (C5ISR/EW) capabilities have traditionally been costly, complex, and fragmented, often existing as “stovepipe”, federated legacy systems or discrete line-replaceable units (LRUs) within individual platforms. This fragmented approach has led to significant integration challenges, increased lifecycle costs, and limited flexibility in adopting emerging technologies.
The ARMY has a requirement for a prototype that minimizes the need for platform specific integration that enables the fielding of evolutionary capabilities without the need for additional cabling, mounts, or upgrades to the CMFF chassis. The end desire for this effort is to eliminate proprietary interfaces, reduce integration complexity, and foster greater competition and system reuse making it significantly easier and more cost-effective to modernize and evolve C5ISR/EW systems. This framework will ensure that defense platforms can seamlessly incorporate advancements in commercial technology, keeping pace with innovation while maintaining interoperability, adaptability, and long-term sustainability across the force.
