description
For the past three decades, the military has been highly dependent on Global Positioning System (GPS) to realize unprecedented effects in both combat and non-combat operations. Existing systems and programs limit ability to “keep pace” with counter-Position Navigation and Timing (PNT) efforts, offering little opportunity for technological gains in this arena. Our adversaries seek to exploit this dependence, as such the US Government (USG) must accelerate fielding of next generation of PNT. A shift to Software Designed Receiver (SDR)-based equipment enables capabilities to be fielded faster than our adversaries can respond, allowing our forces to quickly assess and address an ever-changing PNT landscape.
A robust and resilient PNT capability is the trinity comprised of Resilient Embedded GPS/Inertial Navigation System (INS) (R-EGI), Satellite Navigation (SATNAV) Software Defined Receiver (SSDR), and Software Defined Antenna Electronics (SDAE). The SDAE and SSDR components, together comprise the PNT Software Defined User Equipment (SDUE). R-EGI is the future PNT hub for United States Air Force (USAF) aircraft and is the foundational capability to address emerging and continuously evolving electronic and cyber threats.
